Most people I talk to regarding health and fitness never drill down into the details, the big things like ā€˜eating healthyā€™ and ā€˜getting to the gym more oftenā€™ are the big stumbling blocks that people try and deal with first.

It should actually be the other way round, the first conversation I have with prospective clients is all about removing the easy stuff first. I typically use the example of Tea and Coffee, but the same applies to Alcohol also (and will give you better results quicker!)

Letā€™s break it down:

  • A typical cup of tea or coffee with whole milk and two sugars = ~100 calories

  • Have 5 cups a day? Thatā€™s 500 caloriesā€”just from drinks!

The fix? You donā€™t have to quit caffeine cold Turkey. Here are a few simple swaps to save serious calories:

  • Cut back to 2-3 cups/day

  • Swap sugar for a natural sweetener or skip it altogether

  • Switch to low-fat milk or plant-based options

  • Or try going blackā€”zero calories and full flavour!

  • Flat White, great tasting and only ~ 70 calories

Little changes like this add up. Cutting 500 calories a day could help you lose 1lb a weekā€”without overhauling your whole lifestyle.

To reiterate that point, the larger targets of ā€˜eating betterā€™ and ā€˜exercising moreā€™ all have component parts that you need to start with to make your life easier.
