Most people I talk to regarding health and fitness never drill down into the details, the big things like āeating healthyā and āgetting to the gym more oftenā are the big stumbling blocks that people try and deal with first.
It should actually be the other way round, the first conversation I have with prospective clients is all about removing the easy stuff first. I typically use the example of Tea and Coffee, but the same applies to Alcohol also (and will give you better results quicker!)
Letās break it down:
A typical cup of tea or coffee with whole milk and two sugars = ~100 calories
Have 5 cups a day? Thatās 500 caloriesājust from drinks!
The fix? You donāt have to quit caffeine cold Turkey. Here are a few simple swaps to save serious calories:
Cut back to 2-3 cups/day
Swap sugar for a natural sweetener or skip it altogether
Switch to low-fat milk or plant-based options
Or try going blackāzero calories and full flavour!
Flat White, great tasting and only ~ 70 calories
Little changes like this add up. Cutting 500 calories a day could help you lose 1lb a weekāwithout overhauling your whole lifestyle.
To reiterate that point, the larger targets of āeating betterā and āexercising moreā all have component parts that you need to start with to make your life easier.
